Winter gear like the Kahtoola FLIGHTsystem will keep you running.
November 2006 - Keep on Keepin' On: Winter gear like the Kahtoola FLIGHTsystem will keep you running
Kahtoola FLIGHTsystem [$334]: New from Kahtoola, the company that introduced the lightweight, run-worthy KTS aluminum crampon, comes the FLIGHTsystem. A neoprene overboot called the FLIGHTboot ($149) slides over your running shoes for warmth and protection in the snow with crampon teeth protruding from its rubber sole for traction on hard-packed surfaces. For powdery terrain, the FLIGHTboot's crampons click into the FLIGHTdeck ($185), a snowshoe frame (weighing 40 ounces in the smaller of the two sizes) that works only with the FLIGHTboot. The boot, weighing in at 42 ounces, feels heavy on and takes getting used to and the snowshoe's release cord gets a little sticky, but the system allows snow travelers to switch between the floatation offered by a snowshoe with a crampon system while keeping feet warm and enclosed in neoprene.
