Gripped - The Climbing Magazine

Kahtoola's new steel crampons weigh only 662 g and are flexible enough to fit approach shoes, but have a tough steel frame and connector bar that make them durable and flexible.

Booty Steel Traction System

April/May 2006 - Approaches to alpine rock climbs, ridge scrambles and many alpine traverses are often done in versatile approach shoes. The problem is when ice or glaciers are involved, the security of crampons is desirable but they're heavy, engineered for less technical situations and don't fit softer and lower footwear. Instep and aluminum crampons, on the other hand, are either too soft or not secure enough. Kahtoola's new steel crampons weigh only 662 g and are flexible enough to fit approach shoes, but have a tough steel frame and connector bar that make them durable and flexible.
