November 2006 - Kahtoola Lightweight Crampons

Ohm...Kahtoola means "directly" in Tibetan speak. And when the Arctic winds blast south, mixing with the warmth and moisture from the Atlantic, their traction system will take you from point A to B directly through ice and freezing rain. Kahtoola lightweight crampons mean less stress and more fun hiking and trail running through the slippery months of winter (or for that matter getting to and from your vehicle/house/school/work/etc.). Besides being very light, these ice assaulters are easy as pie to install on a variety of shoes and boots. They come with two sizes of LeafSpring extender bars, making the fit range 10 shoe sizes; add in the adjustable strapping and you've got yourself covered from your favorite svelte running shoes to your colossal snow boots. Ski/ride boots may fit and work well when they are attached to skis and boards, but you can look pretty silly trying to walk in these over ice-covered slopes. You may just want to keep a pair of Kahtoolas handy in your pack, particularly if you go backcountry. They fold away to almost nothing for tidy storage to keep at hand for those must-have moments. As always, Liberty Sports Magazine strives to keep all its readers on sound footing!
