At 10 ounces each, these 10-point aluminum crampons are ideal for fast and light hiking and running

March 2002 - At 10 ounces each, these 10-point aluminum crampons are ideal for fast and light hiking and running. Spikes are just 3/4 of an inch long, which keeps them lightweight and minimalist — although that can compromise solid purchase on steep, icy slopes. A folding heel bar makes them easy to stow in your pack, and the simple-to-use strap system provides a snug fit around trail-running shoes, as well as hefty boots.

Finally, there’s a full-length adjustable crampon made with running in mind.

December/January 2002 - Kahtoola® KTS Crampons. Finally, there’s a full-length, adjustable crampon made with running in mind. Kahtoola’s 10-point KTS aluminum crampons are sturdy but lightweight and flexible — made possible by two thin stainless steel bars sandwiched together as they connect the front and back cleats. Kahtoolas (10 oz. each) have quickly become the traction device of choice for top adventure racing teams and are a smart solution to running on snow- and ice-covered trails.
