TrailRunner
Winter Gear of the Year
February 2008 — Pull the stretchy rubber web on over your running shoes to convert them into running crampons. A stainless-steel chain, designed to flex with your shoes and prevent ice from caking underfoot, connects 10 saber-tooth-like spikes, each measuring 3/8 of an inch. Make sure to pick the right size (four are available) — too small and your toes will get crunched, too big and the spikes can slip around. Recommended for snow or slushy and ice-covered trails.
